Ok, I try to document my findings, in hope that they will be usefull for someone else.Īt least in the beginning, I will focus on free alternatives. I can't really comment on reliability of that post. On ardour and qtractor users blamed that critics was outdated and unfair. Lately reddit had some comparison of linux DAWs. All were partial, covering only some of the relevant candidates, and sure, most of the candidates had more recent versions, with more features.Īlso tried to ask for help in forum, and I got table with some features and later more complete table with more candidates and features, and ton of more candidates to make my selection even harder.

So I would need quite complete Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)ĭid not find any proper comparison of linux DAWs. I ocassionally also create plain electronic music, without playing any real instruments.

Virtual instruments might be anything, Windows VST, linux standalone programs, plugins, soundfonts, external midi device (Roland GR-33) or something else. I play guitar (badly), but most likely other instruments would be with 'done with mouse'. I want to create own (musicalish) recordings. Please note that most of the observations are made spring 2016, so fast evolving softwares have changed. Just now I have tools which work pretty ok for me, so I don't expect to make more testing or updating this page in near future. In case of finishing stuff really, I mix stems together in Mixbus. Phone-made compositions I continue on linux desktop, running Caustic with wine. Right now I create my electronic music with LMMS on linux computer or Caustic on phone. I am also doing some midi stuff also here. And I also mix / master plain elecronic compositions with Mixbus. I record & mix guitar-based music with Mixbus.
